WHAT IS ROOTS & SHOOTS?
"Roots & Shoots" was started in 1991 by Jane Goodall, inspired by 12 young people who came together in Tanzania to look for solutions to the problems of the environment they lived in. It is a programme of global and local transformation. Today it brings together millions of children and young people in more than 70 countries, supporting them to become a source of inspiration in their own communities and to lead change.
Roots & Shoots works for the environment, animals and people. It draws inspiration from children and young people and inspires them in turn, offering strength, courage and room to act together. The programme guides them to follow their passions, to make their dreams real and to become the change the world needs. It supports work that sets out to live in peace and harmony not only with people, but with every part of the world.

People
Does being around people make you happy? Would you like to create change together with your neighbourhood, your neighbours and the people around you? Are you curious about making a social difference?
Animals
Are you drawn to animals, to the way they live and to their habitats? Do you enjoy watching how they live? Or do you want to take action to protect endangered animals?
Environment
Do you want to do something about climate change? Do you think that recycling on its own is not enough, and that we need to move away from a consumer society?
